Focus on Performance: Black Diamond Europe
Performance Marketing
Black Diamond Europe is in a constant process of development to ensure the best performance. We have been accompanying Black Diamond on this path since February 2022.
Various paid ad formats are used in the process. The campaigns are developed, continuously analyzed, and optimized to capture new innovation opportunities and achieve the best possible performance. The focus is on generating sales across different channels such as Google Search, Programmatic Display Ads via DV360, Microsoft Ads, paid Social Media Ads, and Google Shopping campaigns etc.
Approach
The collaboration began with an acquisition presentation by ACC for the Black Diamond Women's Day Campaign 2022. ACC successfully presented the concept and idea.
This was followed by a detailed analysis of the then-existing Search Ads structure. Based on these evaluations, the existing Search Ads were rebuilt and reformulated. Until they were launched, the new Search Ads were run parallel to the old ones with a 50/50 budget distribution.
The old ads were phased out until the focus was fully on the new ones. These were continuously expanded until the newly developed structure was fully implemented. Since then, the Search Ads have been regularly optimized and the budget reallocated depending on performance.
How We Did It
- Search Ads, Paid Social Ads, Google Shopping and PMax campaigns, programmatic banner advertising

- Performance (Output, KPIs)
The focus was on optimizing Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS). The ads, therefore, that achieved a high ROAS were further improved for optimal and more efficient campaign design. For a clear, cross-channel reporting, the Google Looker Studio Dashboard was set up. Through this interactive dashboard, all channels of Black Diamond run together: all data and analyses are thus accessible in real-time on demand.
To stay informed and updated on the latest innovation opportunities, an innovation meeting takes place semi-annually or as needed between Black Diamond and ACC. Here, ACC informs what is new and upcoming, with recommendations for Black Diamond based on performance marketing, campaigns, and tools. Consequently, the approach and individual campaigns are continuously optimized.
In addition to the aforementioned paid campaign formats, newsletter marketing is also utilized. In a joint workshop, the Black Diamond team was coached, and action points were defined.
Results & Impact
The optimization and joint development of digital communication are reflected in both qualitative and measurable dimensions. The Google Search Ads campaign stands out with exceptionally good figures: With the same budget, performance was significantly increased in 2022:
- Conversions +253.78%
- Revenue +196.41%
- ROAS +193.3%
Highlight – Women's Day Campaign
On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, 2023, we developed a creative idea for an online marketing campaign. The essence of the campaign and revelation in the caption is: Awaken the explorer in you. Three Black Diamond athletes were put in the spotlight:
- Awaken the Babsi Zangerl in you. Babsi Zangerl is a professional climber and the first 8b female boulderer.
- Awaken the Fanny Schmutz in you. Fanny Schmutz is an alpinist and mountain guide – she climbed, among others, the Heckmair Route of the Eiger North Face.
- Awaken the Hillary Gerardi in you. Hillary Gerardi is a trail runner – she set the first women's record on the Chamonix – Zermatt Haute Route Ski Traverse.
