AI Advancements?
Anyone daring to get an overview of the world of AI tools quickly faces a challenge: What is current and innovative today can be outdated tomorrow. The speed of innovation is enormous. As I write this article, much has probably changed again. This rapid development primarily requires one thing: flexibility and openness to new things.
There is no "perfect tool"
Every use case, every industry, every team works differently. The choice should always be guided flexibly by one's own needs and not by rankings from the internet or social media hypes. The current Top 100 AI Apps show how much the landscape has consolidated but also specialized. In this magazine article, I present some tools that personally excited me - beyond giants like ChatGPT and others.
Nano Banana: When AI Suddenly Becomes Art Director
When Nano Banana was introduced by Gemini, I had to try it right away; after all, the tool promised something many AI image generators have been limited or unable to do: targeted editing of existing images. I find it particularly exciting that this allows product images to be easily placed in new scenes. For instance, a neutrally photographed sneaker suddenly in an urban street-style setting, or an aquarium heater integrated amidst colorful fish in an aquarium. The idea behind it is great because it could indeed save a lot of expensive photo shoots.
In practice, however, the implementation did not completely convince me. Nano Banana currently works with a somewhat simplified image model, which responds quickly and reliably but doesn't yet match top models like Imagen 3 in terms of detail fidelity and lighting mood. However, quality can be noticeably improved with precise prompting, such as specifying camera settings, lighting conditions, or lens type.
Despite minor weaknesses, Nano Banana remains an exciting approach. For those seeking realistic scene compositions without delving into complex compositing, it is definitely worth a test. Gemini demonstrates how AI image editing is increasingly becoming a genuine creative tool, and I'm sure the model will continue to develop qualitatively.
Whisk: A Real Game Changer in Image Generation
When Nano Banana came onto the market by Gemini, I was honestly quite amazed. Finally, existing images could be edited and objects placed in new scenes - all without complicated compositing. I thought: "Wow, this is indeed a big step for AI image tools." But then Whisk came along and truly took everything to a new level for me. While Nano Banana impresses with what is technically possible, Whisk delights with its user-friendliness and creative intuition. The tool understands what I envision without having to try different things for a long time.
What sets Whisk apart is the so-called "visual prompting": Whisk takes my uploaded images and combines the motif, environment, and style to create something completely new. Unlike many comparable tools, Whisk doesn't just copy but extracts the creative "essence" and presents me with variants that are fresh yet still fitting. If there are not example images everywhere, that's not a problem, because a short prompt can also be written for motif, scene, and style, which then generates an example image. This can be adjusted again if the appropriate image style has not been met.
Whisk is currently still in beta, and there are occasional details that need adjustment, but a tool has rarely activated my creativity so effortlessly as this one. Anyone who has never generated images with AI will be thrilled at how intuitive the process is - and those who are frustrated by Midjourney & Co.'s cryptic prompts will find a truly practical alternative here.
Monica AI: The AI Wrapper Bringing Order to Tool Chaos
I often hear from my colleagues the desire for a tool that unites many different AI functions without multiple licenses, logins, or complicated setups. Monica AI makes this possible.
Monica AI is not a single AI service but a so-called "AI wrapper," a platform that unites various AI models and services under one interface. This means: Monica uses powerful tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Sora2, or Runway in the background without requiring individual accounts or setups. An AI wrapper automatically translates tasks into the appropriate context for the respective model, handles technical details, and delivers results in a uniform, easy-to-use interface. Monica follows a similar approach to our BREITETIEFE AI Hub.
Various specialized services are bundled to make them centrally accessible. This makes AI usage practical and efficient without having to click through multiple platforms. Monica AI is available as a browser extension (e.g., Chrome), desktop app, and mobile app. What particularly convinced me: I no longer have to choose between tools. Monica bundles everything I need in the AI daily routine – from writing to researching to creative work with images or videos. The tool offers a range of features, much more than can be sensibly listed here. So I'll only focus on a few features that I find particularly exciting personally:
- Text creation (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini): Whether emails, blog articles, or other texts – Monica provides precise, well-formulated suggestions.
- Summarization (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini): Websites, YouTube videos, or PDFs can be reduced to the essentials in seconds.
- Image and video generation (e.g., Nano Banana, Imagen, Runway, Veo): Creative ideas can be implemented visually right away without having to switch between tools.
As practical and versatile as Monica AI is, because the tool works directly in the browser, it is also worth taking a brief look at data protection: According to the provider, only necessary information is collected, browsing and chat data remain private, and there is no sharing with third parties. Everything is stored on secure servers in the USA, and chat data is not used for training AI models. Monica also emphasizes transparent data protection guidelines and open customer service. However, it is important: As Monica integrates various models as an AI wrapper, their individual data protection provisions apply, such as those from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. This means: Anyone using Monica should check how the tool forwards data to the connected services and how these handle the information. Especially with sensitive data, it's worth taking a look at the data protection guidelines of all involved AIs to better assess risks and differences.
My conclusion: Of course, not everything is "perfect": Some features still seem a bit raw, and it sometimes takes a while to complete more complex tasks. Moreover, some features are limited in the free version. For full functionality, an upgrade to a paid version is necessary.
But as a central platform for the AI daily routine, Monica AI is currently one of the most exciting tools I've tested. Anyone who doesn't see AI as an isolated "gimmick" but as an orchestrated system of multiple services will find Monica AI a real everyday helper and an exciting preview of how AI wrappers could simplify our digital work in the future.
AI in Daily Browsing: Experiences with Comet
The Comet browser is not an ordinary web browser but an AI-supported assistant that thinks along and actively supports in the background. For example, it can automatically summarize websites or read online documents.
It is a strange feeling when the AI suddenly autonomously clicks during work, for example, preparing an email or setting up a project for me. It's fascinating but also a bit eerie. The idea of giving such an agent so much control was unfamiliar to me.
Upon closer inspection, the privacy concept positively surprised me: All browsing and usage data like history, passwords, or cookies fundamentally remain local on my computer. Only when I consciously let the AI perform an action, like organizing my emails or analyzing a calendar, is context passed to the servers and only as much as necessary. Sensitive information such as passwords or payment data is stored encrypted in my system, according to the provider, and not permanently transmitted. Accesses to Gmail, calendar, or similar services I grant actively and can revoke at any time.
Despite this technically thoughtful approach, a residual risk is never excluded. Especially since Comet takes over so many tasks independently and requires many rights. With AI browsers, it remains important to regularly question and check one's own settings and the AI's behavior. Only by keeping control over my data can I truly enjoy the full potential of smart automation. Here are some practical application examples of how I use the Comet browser in daily life:
- Summarizing websites and long texts: Simply open an article and ask the AI to summarize the most important aspects in a few sentences. This is particularly useful for research or skimming news.
- Summarizing YouTube videos in seconds: While the video plays, I let the AI write a compact summary without having to watch the complete video. This saves an immense amount of time.
- Reading online documents (e.g., from Google Drive) and summarizing the most important insights or concrete recommendations for action. Especially for long reports or presentations, I save an enormous amount of time this way. The AI filters out the key points and gives me quick, actionable results for my work.
As helpful as the AI browser is, it's not perfect yet. For instance, creating new projects in our agency software POOOL currently takes so long that I have often created them manually much faster. But I am convinced: These small friction points will soon disappear. What Comet already shows is the enormous potential of AI in daily browser use - a first but impressive step towards truly intelligent browsing.
What I Want to Share with Readers
The tools presented show how diverse and powerful AI already is today: From visual creativity to all-in-one solutions to smart browser experiences. Every tool has its strengths but also limitations, whether it's in detail depth, speed, or data security. Those who remain flexible, try new possibilities, and keep their requirements clearly in mind can effectively integrate AI tools into everyday life. My learning: It's worth testing boldly but always with a watchful eye on data protection and functionality.
